What's the difference between a cohort study and a cross-sectional study?

(In terms of disease observation)
A cohort study take a sample of folks and observes them repeatedly over the course of time. e.g. as a disease develops or as a treatment is used.
A cross sectional study looks at a group of relations at one time in different stages of a disease.
